Sonidos Ancestrales

France returns ancestral sounds

The Center for Research in Ethnomusicology (CREM) in France has returned to Bolivia 157 digital recordings containing historical records of music from various indigenous communities, including the Chacobo, Takana, Moxos, Jalq'a, Llamero, and Yampara. These recordings, made between 1903 and 2001, aim to revitalize and preserve the cultural memory of these communities, whose music, orally transmitted and linked to rituals, has been threatened by social changes and migration. The National Archives and Library of Bolivia (ABNB) will distribute free copies to the communities and descendants of the original performers.
